Mr. Theodore W. Ackroyd, 88, of Cortland passed away on Sunday January 21, 2018 at Cortland Regional Medical Center. Born June 21, 1929 in Binghamton, Ted was the son of William A. and Harriet Warner Ackroyd.

Ted was a graduate of the Binghamton School District and Utica Tech and he had faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army. He was employed by American Airlines in Washington, D.C. and then retired from NYSEG in Ithaca, N.Y. Ted enjoyed playing tennis and bowling, as well as gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, traveling and Syracuse football and basketball.

Additionally, Ted attended Thomas Jefferson Elementary School in Binghamton and many years after leaving school he was a loyal member of the T.J. Breakfast Club, where he was able to visit with many of his former classmates.

In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by his brother and sister in law; William B. and Gloria Ackroyd. He is survived by his wife; Helen at home, who had been together with Ted for 50 years and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at 12 p.m. from the Chapel of Riccardi Funeral Home 69 N. Main St. Cortland, N.Y. with Pastor Chuck Smith officiating. Prayers of committal in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery will be private. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. prior to services in the funeral home chapel.
